The Cline Group appointed Paul Vining as its CEO. Vining assumed the leadership of Cline Group affiliate, Cutlass Collieries, in February as its CEO and has spent the balance of the year leading acquisitions and potential acquisitions of coal operations in North America and Australia. Vining will remain CEO of Cutlass Collieries. Vining was also appointed president of Foresight Reserves.

Peabody Energy elected Robert A. Malone to the nonexecutive role of chairman of the board, effective January 1. The veteran executive has been serving as lead independent director of Peabody since January 2013. He will succeed Gregory H. Boyce, who will retire from Peabody effective December 31. He is the retired executive vice president of British Petroleum (BP) plc and former chairman of the board and president of BP America.

SunCoke Energy announced leadership changes: Michael J. Thomson, president and COO, is leaving the company and stepping down from the board of directors. CEO Fritz Henderson, Senior Vice President Mike Hardesty, and CFO Fay West will assume additional responsibilities. Hardesty has been appointed to the board of directors of SunCoke Energy Partners L.P. Barry Elswick, vice president, coke operations, is also leaving the company to pursue other interests. Hardesty will assume responsibility for the international coke business and Dovie Majors, director of performance improvement and interim general manager at Indiana Harbor, is being promoted to the role of vice president, domestic coke operations.

Union Pacific elected Lance M. Fritz chairman, president and CEO effective October 1. Previously, Fritz was president and COO. He succeeds John J. Koraleski as chairman. Koraleski plans to retire September 30 after a 43-year career at Union Pacific in which he served as executive chairman, president and CEO.
