CONSOL Energy employees were able to contribute to the company’s fight against hunger by donating $10 for a CONSOL Energy and Pittsburgh Penguins T-shirt. More than 1,600 T-shirts were sold.

To kick off the company-wide effort before Thanksgiving, CONSOL Energy sponsored the 4th Annual Corner Cupboard Holiday Food Drive at the Greene County Courthouse in Waynesburg, Pa. on November 15, 2011, CONSOL Energy employees and food bank volunteers collected nonperishable food and monetary donations from event attendees and area businesses. Limited edition CONSOL-Penguins T-shirts also were available for a donation, with many local residents excited to wear their support.

“At CONSOL Energy, we believe it’s our responsibility and privilege to be a good corporate citizen and active participant and in the communities where we work and live,” said Laural Ziemba, director of community relations, CONSOL Energy. “As a leading employer in Greene County, we’re invested in helping both our employees and their neighbors in need. In addition to the $20,000 we invested in the food drive event, the $8,175 collected at the event and CONSOL Energy’s $5,000 cash donation to the Corner Cupboard Food Bank for Thanksgiving, I’m pleased to present an additional check for $16,000 from CONSOL Energy’s employees.”

“CONSOL Energy’s annual contributions allow the Corner Cupboard Food Bank to double our funding to help the community’s most vulnerable,” said Jan Caldwell, executive director, Corner Cupboard Food Bank. “We are especially grateful during the winter holidays, when there’s a substantial jump in the number in need of food assistance.”
