This Carmichael project will build Australia’s largest thermal coal mine in the north Galilee Basin approximately 160 kilometers (km) northwest of Clermont in Central Queensland. It will be linked by a new 388-km standard gauge North Galilee Basin Rail Line to two terminals at Abbot Point Port near Bowen. The combined mine, rail and port operations will provide more than 10,000 direct and indirect jobs and supply opportunities for local businesses.
